Life Skills Development

At Ambitions, life skills are a core focus. The service is designed to support people to acquire practical skills that are essential for daily living and personal growth. Some of the key life skills activities include:

  • Household Management: Participants learn skills such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and basic home maintenance. These activities build confidence in managing personal spaces and contribute to their overall independence.

  • Budgeting and Money Management: Managing finances is an important skill for independent living. Ambitions runs sessions on budgeting, shopping, and understanding money, helping participants to make informed financial decisions.

  • Health and Wellbeing: The service promotes healthy living through activities like meal planning, exercise, and personal hygiene routines. Participants also learn about mental health and the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

  • Social Skills and Communication: Ambitions emphasises the development of communication skills, helping individuals interact confidently in social situations. This includes both verbal and non-verbal communication, as well as understanding social cues and building relationships.

Activities and Community Engagement

A typical day at Ambitions looks different for everyone. This is why our whole ethos is built around a tailor-made service for those who attend. For some, it may look like work experience, while for others it may be working towards a realistic target. Our aim is to leave our Ilminster hub at least once a week to engage in a community based activity or trip.

Ambitions provides opportunities for participants to engage with the local community, building social networks and gaining confidence in different environments. Activities include:

  • Volunteering: Participants can engage in volunteer opportunities within the community, giving them a sense of purpose and belonging.

  • Local Outings: Regular trips and outings are organised, allowing participants to explore their interests, practice social skills, and experience new environments.

  • Workshops and Group Projects: Group activities encourage teamwork and collaboration, helping individuals develop a range of skills in a supportive setting.                                                                                          Our onsite activities include a range of tailor made sessions such as woodwork, cooking, basic skills, performing arts, physical activity and so much more. We share ideas once a month so that every person has a choice and a voice to design their own service.

Personalised Goal Setting, Achievements and Lifelong learning

Ambitions places great emphasis on helping participants set and achieve realistic goals. The staff work closely with each individual to identify their strengths, areas for improvement, and personal aspirations. This goal-setting process involves:

  1. Individual Support Plans (ISPs): Each participant has a tailored plan that outlines  their specific goals, strategies for achieving them, and the support they will receive. Goals can range from learning a new skill to becoming more involved in the community.

  2. Ongoing Monitoring and Review: Progress is regularly reviewed, ensuring that goals remain relevant and achievable. Adjustments are made as needed, based on the participant’s progress and changing needs.

  3. Celebration of Success: Achievements, no matter how small, are celebrated. This recognition not only boosts confidence but also motivates participants to continue working towards their next goal.                                                                                    Ambitions provides a range of specialised programs tailored to the unique needs of those who attend. Our comprehensive programs focus on building life skills through qualifications, work experience, and non-building-based activities to meet the social and emotional needs of our participants. We are dedicated to creating a nurturing and supportive environment where individuals can thrive and reach their full potential.

We are not just a day service.

We are so much more.

We understand the demands of daily life, which is why we offer a transport and lunch service for a small additional cost for those who wish to use this.

We are able to pick you up from your home, from Yeovil, Chard, Taunton, Wellington and surrounding areas.

We are able to provide a hot lunch on the days we are onsite and a packed lunch for the days we are out. This will be planned and prepared by attendees as part of their life skills development.

In addition to the above, we will do our best to be available out of hours to answer the phone and assist with emergencies. We know how important a familiar face is in moments of crisis.
